Making the Most of Narrative Short Films
Each DVD includes a library of these films—including interviews with the filmmakers and interactive questions. The DVD can be used in small or large group settings—or just one on one (or as we like to say, “You can ‘Go big! Go small! Go home! Or (coming soon) Go online!’). We’ve seen everything from an iPod on an airplane to an apartment packed with people to a whole dorm to a whole campus to an entire city. People who are already a part of this Global Short Film Network have emailed us from around the world with their suggestions to make each showing even better.
You know your audience and what may be the best environment for them to engage with you. That’s why we’ve customized the DVD to fit best with you and your audience. Casual or more formal atmosphere; relaxed or more structured facilitator questions…you select what works for you.
Hosting a Mini Short Film Festival
Regardless of the size of the audience, after they watch the film, facilitators walk them through thought-provoking questions related to it. If the story is inspired from a classic source like the Bible (though likely retold with a new twist), the original story is sometimes recounted in non-religious language. Many will be unfamiliar with it, and usually amazed that Jesus, for example, told a similar story. Individuals may also share their own real life story as it relates to the themes of the short films. Regardless of where someone is on their spiritual journey, almost everyone makes connections to their friendship with God (whether they are opposed, at a distance, or enjoying a close relationship with Him). A Good Model to Follow
With many stories like these, he presented his message to them, fitting the stories to their experience and maturity. He was never without a story when he spoke. When he was alone with his disciples, he went over everything, sorting out the tangles, untying the knots.
---Mark 4:3-34 (The Message)
The disciples came up and asked, “Why do you tell stories? …That's why I tell stories: to create readiness, to nudge the people toward receptive insight.”
---Matthew 13:10, 13 (The Message)
